Raglan Cardi - last one, I promise :) I’m just so proud! haha.
Finished the Raglan Cardigan last night :) It now has super cute buttons on it as well! I will do my best to take pics and post them later today. I’ll be the first to admit that it is not perfect… however, for my first attempt ever at a sweater - I think it is pretty darn cute!
Also, started another headband ‘template’ on the train this am… I’m using up some of my stash/ left-over yarn and it will be a knit/crochet combo version! At this point it will have a magenta knitted base band with crochet ‘buttons’ in various colors as the accent. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Happy Tuesday people! It is my Thursday..mwhaha… (off of work Thurs./Fri.) so that is even more to celebrate!
Front of my Raglan Cardigan as of Saturday (with me being a nerd taking photos in the back yard… don’t you like the shadow? it was an accident, until I decided it was cool :) )- At this point I still needed to finish up the sleeves and front panels. As of this morning, I have approximately 4 rows left before I’m done! All I’ll need to do is add buttons. And FYI - it fits :) YAY!
There are days when I just feel kind of pensive. Today I’ll blame it on the man on the train who decided to ask me about my cardigan the whole way into work. ‘What made you want to start knitting? How do you follow the pattern? How long will it take? How did you learn to do this?’
Sometimes people like that get on my nerves, but he was a rare sincerely curious person…. as opposed to those who ask the same questions but are thinking, “SERIOUSLY you are in your twenties and freaking knitting?”. Yes people, I can tell the difference.
Anyhow, it just got me to thinking. Why did I start knitting and why do I love it so much? Well for starters, I needed a hobby… but all my life I’ve been doing arts/crafts (so that is no shocker).
Truthfully, I think it is the act of ‘creating’ something. Not so much being creative, as it is making something unique that is wholly done by me (hah - now I sound like a control freak). BUT - I picked my college because I didn’t want to go where everyone else was; for our wedding I refused to have it be ’typical’ sit-down in a ballroom… down to my favors for which I decided to hand sew 200 ric rac bows and cut vintage lace from my grandmother. I might have lost my mind doing it, but weren’t they pretty?
Some people think knitting is boring and painstaking and that is fine… but I just enjoy making things unique. All that detail and work is totally worth it - and hence my love affair.
I am not very good at explaining all of that to people on the train - so I say things like ‘I needed something to do and decided to teach myself!’ Maybe next time someone asks I’ll just say - ‘here is my tumblr… go read.’ I’m much better at explaining (ahem, rambling off topic) on paper. Haha.
My work so far on the top-down raglan cardigan. FYI- the color is actually more of a magenta… I waited to late to take my pics yesterday (i.e. until 9pm) and the lighting inside stinks! Argh, oh well :) I’ll take you prettier pictures when it is done!
